ADULT STUDIES

Sugar Grove is a faith community with a very strong belief in the power of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit, who provides it. It is a church where every adult has many opportunities to grow in their faith through various organized Bible studies on Sundays and Wednesdays, and throughout the week. While there is an emphasis on learning information about God's Word, the primary focus is on transformation by the Spirit of God through that indwelling connection with both the written and spoken Word of God. The adult class studies on Sundays are organized around an Adult Bible Fellowship model, where class members can share in each other's spiritual insights, build relationships with fellow believers, and connect with others on a similar faith journey.

The goals of our adult studies are:

  • To emphasize the significance of God's Word in the lives of our people
  • To provide an atmosphere where participants can discover the truths of God's Word for their lives, find community in the discovery process, and be motivated and encouraged to apply the principles learned in their daily lives.
  • To partner with the Holy Spirit in the transformation of lives, transformation of this church, and the transformation of the community in which we serve.
  • To help people become and be Jesus to those around them in very practical and life-giving ways.

Study of 1 Peter
(What Is an Alien to Do?)

We live in a culture that is rapidly becoming unfriendly toward Christianity, if not antagonistic toward it. Our core values and beliefs are being challenged on a daily basis. Pressure is daily being applied on believers to compromise and even abandon their faith. Social, political and religious pressures are causing a rise in the degree of suffering that believers are experiencing. What do we do in these challenging times? The Apostle Peter wrote to a number of churches and believers, who were experiencing the same thing in the first century A.D. This summer many of our adult classes are studying 1 Peter and his message of Hope in the face of suffering and persecution. Peter’s main message is “Remember who you are and whose you are!” as you face the assaults on your faith by people in your neighborhoods, communities, work environments, and government. Join us for a rewarding study of 1 Peter!

Summer 2010 Adult Wednesday Evening Classes

Are You Working Out?
(Disciplines Critical for Spiritual Maturity)

What kind of shape are you in? You might answer, “I am in pretty good shape for the shape I am in!” While that might be mildly humorous in connection with our physical condition, it is tragically deficient as a response to our spiritual condition. Utilizing the “workout” metaphor, our Wednesday class will focus on helping us to answer the question related to our spiritual health, “Are You Working Out?” We want to get in shape spiritually speaking! The question is, “How best to do that?” Join us on Wednesday nights as we explore these questions and more. Discover that God has given us the right DNA to be spiritually healthy. We just need to join Him in getting in shape!
