ADULT STUDIES

Sugar Grove is a faith community with a very strong belief in the power of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit, who provides it. It is a church where every adult has many opportunities to grow in their faith through various organized Bible studies on Sundays and Wednesdays, and throughout the week. While there is an emphasis on learning information about God's Word, the primary focus is on transformation by the Spirit of God through that indwelling connection with both the written and spoken Word of God. The adult class studies on Sundays are organized around an Adult Bible Fellowship model, where class members can share in each other's spiritual insights, build relationships with fellow believers, and connect with others on a similar faith journey.

The goals of our adult studies are:

  • To emphasize the significance of God's Word in the lives of our people
  • To provide an atmosphere where participants can discover the truths of God's Word for their lives, find community in the discovery process, and be motivated and encouraged to apply the principles learned in their daily lives.
  • To partner with the Holy Spirit in the transformation of lives, transformation of this church, and the transformation of the community in which we serve.
  • To help people become and be Jesus to those around them in very practical and life-giving ways.


Fall 2011 Adult Wednesday Evening Class

After the series on How To Interpret The Bible (Hermeneutics) that Mark is facilitating (ends on September 28), Richard Fancher will be leading a series entitled, KNOW DOUBT: The Importance of Embracing Uncertainty in Our Faith.
  • Have you ever "stumbled" in your faith?
  • Have you ever wrestled with uncertainty?
  • Have you ever wondered if you are a true believer?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, you have reason to celebrate. You are not alone. There is a line between belief and unbelief…between faith and doubt…that is less a dividing line and more of a razor's edge that runs through every soul. And there is relief…hope…joy…and faith in being truly honest, authentic and sincere. There is a mystery to faith, as there is to life, that I do not fully understand. When we take seriously the reality of both faith and doubt, the most important word in that phrase is the one in the middle - and. Most people are a mix of the two.

Can we be faithful and still follow truth wherever it leads? Is it possible that doubt might be one of those unwelcome guests of life that is sometimes, in the right circumstances, good for you?
