Sugar Grove Church of Christ

There is a story in the Bible of a religious leader asking Jesus the following question, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” Jesus’s responds, saying, ““The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.

As a community of people trying to live lives [though often failing] fully devoted to Jesus, if that’s most important to him, then it’s most important to us as well. So our mission is “For God & For Neighbor.” We want everything we do to bring honor to God and our Neighbors, both those already apart of our community and those outside of it. With this as our mission, success simply becomes faithfulness to what God is calling us to that results in another picture we find in Bible.

The first picture of Church in Acts is found in chapter 2, which says, “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and signs were being performed through the apostles. Now all the believers were together and held all things in common. They sold their possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as any had need. Every day they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple, and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with joyful and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. Every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

God blesses them with Community, Diversity, Generosity, Service, Transformation, and Worship as they live lives For God & For Neighbor. It’s why these are our six core values [one of the reasons you’ll find hexagons everywhere at Sugar Grove]. To read more about those, you can click the words in the previous sentence.

That’s it. Nothing new. In fact, very old ideas that we’re trying to recapture and see here in Houston, TX and beyond. If you have any questions, feel free to fill out the form below.
